The bond between Global Water Center (GWC) and Water Mission runs deep, rooted in a shared vision, a common founder, and strong family ties. Dr. George and Molly Greene founded Water Mission, which later launched GWC to scale safe water solutions worldwide. Their son, George Greene IV, joined them in 2001 and now serves as President and CEO of Water Mission. From the very beginning, he has also played a key leadership role at GWC.

Reflecting on the connection between the two organizations, George IV shared, “GWC was created to take the best practices from Water Mission and other implementers in the sector and leverage them to amplify impact, ensuring safe water reaches more people, more effectively, and on a larger scale.”

Driven by a passion to address the root causes of the global water crisis, George IV highlights the stark contrast in water access between the U.S. and developing countries: “In the U.S., we have regulations, degree programs, and systems in place to ensure safe water. Most of us don’t even think about the global water crisis because it’s been solved here for over 100 years.” Through GWC, he envisions creating frameworks that, while different, can achieve similar results in communities lacking reliable water access.

As Vice Chair of the board and Chair of GWC’s Advancement and Engagement Committee, George IV is committed to ensuring GWC implements best practices for long-term impact. In his dual role as President and CEO of Water Mission, he also helps drive ongoing collaboration and support between the two organizations.

As both a board member and donor, he shares a heartfelt message with GWC supporters: “Thank you! Your engagement and support are changing lives. When we express gratitude, it’s not just on behalf of GWC—it’s on behalf of all the people we serve around the world.”

We are deeply grateful for George Greene IV’s leadership and passion. With his support, GWC will continue to drive sustainable solutions and expand access to safe water worldwide.
