We recently held two weeks of intensive training for government water professionals in Tanzania. This training brought together people from nearly every corner of the country—representing 24 of Tanzania’s 25 regions and 121 of its 128 districts.
It was an extraordinary gathering. Participants brought with them not only technical curiosity but also a shared commitment to solving one of Tanzania’s most urgent challenges: ensuring safe, reliable water for every community, even the most remote.
During week one, 78 government water professionals began their training with classroom study and hands-on design work. By midweek, they stepped out of the classroom to examine a functioning solar powered water system, connecting theory to practice. At the end of the week, regional teams compared notes and began adapting lessons to the realities of their own districts.
In week two, another 86 participants started the training, multiplying the impact nationwide. The energy of the sessions was palpable. Laughter and focus filled the room as teams tested model systems, solved design challenges together, and grew more confident each day.
The training was a rare opportunity for government water professionals from across the country to encourage one another, learn side by side, and discover new ways to serve their communities.
One participant reflected: “The course is very important to my career. I pledge to apply all that I learned to improve solar-powered water projects.” Another added: “The knowledge I got is very useful to my job. I would like to attend more design workshops in the days ahead, and I hope this will not be the last.”
The work ahead is immense, but with this network of trained professionals leading the way, we are hopeful for the future of water in Tanzania.
