Earlier this month, we hosted a landmark event in Charleston, South Carolina for a diverse and passionate group of leaders from across the global water sector. Our time together focused on deep dialogue, shared learning, and bold visioning.

Who Was There

The Gathering welcomed a powerful cross-section of the sector, including funders, implementers, researchers, and advocates. This included representatives from organizations such as World Vision, Catholic Relief Services, charity: water, Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, and Grundfos Americas Corporation. These participants brought not only their institutional expertise but also a spirit of openness and collaboration that defined the event.

What We Discussed

The agenda was framed around five key pillars essential to accelerating progress toward universal access to safe water:

Human Capacity Development: This session explored how to move beyond ad hoc training toward long-term capacity development strategies that empower individuals, strengthen institutions, and shift societal norms.

Government Engagement & Public-Private Partnerships: Participants were invited to reimagine how governments and the private sector can work together more effectively to deliver sustainable water services. The discussion emphasized the need for trust-building, coherent policy frameworks, and strong regulatory environments.

Blended Financing: A case study from Central America showcased how combining technical assistance with repayable financing can help scale water services. The model demonstrated that de-risking investments through local expertise and structured support can attract private capital and generate long-term impact.

Data for Action & Accountability: The conversation emphasized the transformative potential of data when it is accessible, actionable, and embedded in decision-making. Two digital platforms were highlighted for their ability to help organizations use data more effectively to drive results across the water sector.

Collaborative Impact: Participants reflected on the importance of collaboration. They were challenged by questions like: How can you connect what you do best with others? How can you position your organization to be open-handed?

We also dealt with the reality that the way we’re currently leading our organizations is perfectly designed to produce the results we’re getting. So, are we willing to change? Are we willing to become more collaborative for the sake of others and for the sake of transforming the current state of global water poverty?

What Comes Next

We hope this event serves as a launching point for deeper collaboration and encouragement across the sector. By aligning our efforts, sharing our knowledge, and holding each other accountable, we can accelerate the pace of change and bring safe water to every person, everywhere.

Let’s keep the momentum going.
