The Charleston Mission Celebration brought people together for an evening of meaningful conversation about one of the world’s greatest challenges and the people working every day to solve it.

Held at the Carolina Yacht Club in Charleston, the event created space for connection, learning, and shared purpose. What was planned as a two-hour gathering quickly became something more. Long after the formal program ended, guests lingered in conversation, reflecting on what they had heard and building new relationships around a shared commitment to safe water.

One of the evening’s highlights was hearing from Vida Duti, a GWC board member and Country Director for IRC WASH in Ghana. Vida shared how growing up without access to safe water fueled her passion to end the global water crisis. She spoke about receiving the prestigious OPEC Fund Development Award and choosing to invest the prize to improve safe water access in her home community. Her story reminded attendees that while the global water crisis affects billions of people, local leaders are driving solutions every day.

Many guests expressed surprise at the scale of the global water crisis and the number of people still living without safe water. Yet the evening was not defined by the challenge itself. Instead, it highlighted the growing network of people working to solve it.

The event also showcased how different organizations contribute to lasting water solutions. Water Mission focuses on delivering safe water to communities, while Global Water Center equips and connects the professionals, organizations, and institutions responsible for keeping those systems working over time. Together, these complementary approaches help strengthen both access to safe water and the long-term sustainability of water services.

More than 80 people attended the celebration, but what stood out most was the sense of possibility in the room. As conversations continued well into the evening, attendees left with a deeper understanding of both the challenge and the opportunity before us: investing in people and organizations who can help safe water flow for generations to come.
